The TUM Center for Functional Protein Assemblies: CPA
Innovations for Health and Sustainability
The interdisciplinary research center CPA allows 130 scientists from 13 different research groups investigating protein function and interaction on an area of around 4,000 square meters. Our goal is to understand how functional properties of proteins emerge by their interaction on the structural and cellular level and in the context of organs. With state-of-the-art technologies, CPA Central facilities offer new opportunities to gain unprecedented knowledge of protein interactions over a wide variety of interdisciplinary research fields.
CPA - Our Vision
By integrating the key disciplines of modern biosciences under one roof, the CPA overcomes conventional disciplinary restrictions and methodological boundaries, both scientifically and technically, but above all in the formulation of new research perspectives. The CPA serves as an incubator for multifunctional teams that think outside traditional disciplinary boundaries and thus jointly develop solutions for the complex issues of the life sciences. This stimulating atmosphere gives rise to new project ideas directly to be implemented immediately without any hierarchical hurdles.
CPA - Our Mission
The TUM CPA aims to investigate specific protein interactions and the underlying microscopic operating mechanisms, complementing other centers of system biology with a focus on gene expression regulation. Through a comprehensive and unique combination of interdisciplinary basic research with application-oriented aspects, protein interaction mechanisms that lead to emergent functions are to be identified and harnessed.
